When I was growing up we had two holidays in February: President Abraham Lincoln’s birthday, February 12, and President George Washington’s Birthday, February 22. Come to think of it, February was really a very full month considering it’s the shortest month of the year AND it contains Valentine’s Day and our two most famous presidents’ birthdays. We spent a lot of class time learning about Lincoln and Washington; the bulletin boards were packed with artwork and essays. In fact, portraits of Lincoln and Washington are, in my mind, inextricable associated with Valentine hearts! (I am hopeful that children still learn about Presidents Lincoln and Washington.) Now we just have a generic Presidents’ Day Holiday, a day when schools are closed and stores have big sales. I could write more about that, but perhaps I’d better move on to the real subject of this post!
Hannah and I--Willis had to be in Atlanta on Sunday for a training--traveled on Thursday and Friday prior to the holiday to the snow and ice of Pennsylvania to visit Bethany and Ben at Grove City College. On Friday we were able to listen to Bethany perform a piano solo in a Friday afternoon recital and play with the orchestra Friday evening. Ben was busy all day Saturday with his newly-joined fraternity activities, but we did enjoy lunch with him after church on Sunday. Regular visits to the college as well as visits from Bethany’s friends to our home have resulted in relationships with some wonderful college students—Bethany and Ben head my list:-)—and I truly cherish these visits to reconnect, hear about recent experiences, see how God is at work in their lives, and learn of plans for the future. Thank you, Grove City College friends, for your wonderful hospitality!

Even though we've never met most of your kids, we are getting to know them! Thanks!
